Victoria Baylis
Victoria Baylis is a litigation associate with Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP in Calgary, Alberta. Prior to joining Fasken, she worked for a boutique litigation firm in Vancouver, where she maintained a broad civil litigation practice. Before obtaining her JD from the Peter A. Allard School of Law, she completed a Bachelor of Science at the University of British Columbia, majoring in biology. When she made the leap to law, she brought along her passion for a more just and sustainable food system. During her JD, she worked as a summer law student for West Coast environmental and was an active member of UBC’s Animal Justice Chapter. She also worked as a clinician for the Law Students’ Legal Advice Program, and Rise Women’s Legal Centre helping marginalized folks access legal services.
Nadia Lambek
Nadia is an Assistant Professor at Western University Faculty of Law (where she teaches a course in food law and policy), as well as a human rights lawyer, researcher and advocate focused on food system transitions and the rights of working people. Along with other members of the Board, Nadia helped to found the CAFLP and has been involved in organizing the CAFLP’s annual conferences as well as the association’s regular activities since 2017. In 2018, she worked with the Civil Society and Indigenous Peoples’ Mechanism to the UN Committee on World Food Security on a report monitoring realization of the right to food. She is an editor of Rethinking Food Systems: Structural Challenges, New Strategies and the Law (Springer 2014).
Julia Witmer
Julia Witmer is entering her third year at the Schulich School of Law, Dalhousie University and completed her undergraduate in Life Sciences at Queen’s University. She is interested in the intersection between health, food, law and policy – especially as it relates to food access. In her free time, Julia enjoys practicing yoga, exploring Nova Scotia, crafting, cooking, baking and eating good food.
Elizabeth Yu
Elizabeth Mu Tan Yu is currently completing a Bachelor of Civil Law and Juris Doctor at McGill University. She will graduate in Winter 2022. Prior to her law studies Elizabeth completed a Bachelor of Arts (1st Class Honors) at McGill in Political Science with a minor in Canadian Studies. While at the Faculty of Law, Elizabeth has had the opportunity to work with McGill's Food and Agriculture Legal Clinic as Vice President(Projects) and is looking forward to stepping into the position of Clinical Director for the 2021/2022 academic year. With ten years of experience in the food and beverage industry, Elizabeth is passionate about the intersection of food, drinks, hospitality, and law. She currently continues to work in restauration and as a freelance restaurant consultant.
